Trimble Positions Downloads and Install order for ArcGIS for Windows Mobile 10.1.1

Where to find ArcGIS for Windows Mobile download

ArcGIS for Windows Mobile 10.1 can be downloaded from your Esri Customer Care porthole.
A reminder to install the ESRI software first then install the Trimble Positions software and then activate it.

After ArcGIS 10.1 is installed then you can proceed to install the following software and activation in this order:

ArcGIS for Windows Mobile 10.1.1
Trimble Positions Desktop Add-In
Run the Trimble Positions Desktop configuration: Click on Start/All Programs/Trimble/Trimble Positions Tools/Desktop Configuration. This will create a “Jet Database” to store project information.
Launch ArcMap to verify that the Trimble Tool bar is active. If not then check under “Customize” Extensions.

Trimble Positions for ArcMobile does not work with ArcGIS Basic license.

On the Trimble Windows Mobile 6.1 or 6.5 Device:

Deploy ArcGIS for Windows Mobile 10.1.1 to the Trimble device (running WM 6.1 or 6.5).
Install the Trimble Positions Mobile Project Manager (for Desktop) found also in the same install splash screen for Trimble Positions for Mobile.
Install Trimble Positions for Mobile and then Activate the license. Activation of the license is done via the PC. Click on Start/All Programs/Trimble/Trimble Positions for Mobile Extension/Trimble Positions for Mobile Extension License Configuration.

**** Once the install completed on the Trimble device verify that the following are installed via Active Sync, Windows Mobile Device Center (from the PC) or on the device in Remove Programs:

ESRI ArcGIS (for Windows Mobile 10.1.1) it will be at the top of the list
SQLServerCompact3.5Core
Trimble GNSSServer
Trimble Postisions Mobile Extentsion 10.1.1.1

Laser Technology has released a bulletin to cease using the Neck Strap that was supplied with the TruPulse 360R.

“We encourage customers to remove the TruPulse 360R neck strap from the unit and discontinue its use. Please contact your
Sales Representative for a free replacement neck strap. We apologize for this inconvenience.”

If you need to activate the “NMEA” option and or “Floodlight” option (XT and Pro 6T only for Floodlight) as the Geo 6000 XH and Pro 6H should already have “Floodlight” activated.

Creating Waypoints in GPS Pathfinder Office 5.xx_Part 1 ”From the Map Window“

This is a 3 part blog about how to create Waypoints in GPS Pathfinder Office to then use with TerraSync in the field.

This blog post is about how to create Waypoints from selecting a location in the Map window.
The 2nd blog post will show how to manually create a Waypoint file.
The 3rd blog post will show how to import from” txt/csv” file.

Open Trimble GPS Pathfinder Office.
Set your “Coordinate System and Units” from the main menu under “Options” to the what the Waypoints are to be in the field when navigating to them.
Load a background file that matches the “Coordinate System” and Units from Step 2. To load a background file click on File/Background and then click on Add and browse to your spatially referenced background file.
Set your “Style of Display” for Lat/Long, State Plane or UTM “North/East” etc.

5. Click on File/Waypoints/New. Follow the screen shots below for step by step instructions on how to create a Waypoint file and then how to add individual locations from the spatially referenced background file. If the text in the images are hard to read click on them to make them larger.

6. Name the Waypoint something unique per the project.

7. Then name your first Waypoint ”Name” and select “Pick from Map” check box and then use your select arrow to click on the Map to populate the coordinates from the Map.

8. After you have selected the location from the map the coordinates should be populated. Click “Save“.

9. Continue adding more Waypoint locations to your file.

10. Once you are done adding Waypoint locations click “Save“.

11. You can review the Waypoints you created and then click “Close“.

12. Now you are ready to transfer the Waypoint to your Trimble device. Connect your device to your PC and wait for it to connect via “Active Sync and or WMDC”. Click on Utilities/Data Transfer from the main menu.

13. Click on the “Send” tab and click on “Add” and select “Waypoint“.

14. Add the Waypoint file(s) that you wish to transfer to your Trimble device.

15. Select “Transfer All“.

16. Your Waypoints are now on your Trimble Device.

Part 3 of creating “Waypoints” with GPS Pathfinder Office will show how to import them in from a “txt or csv” file.

Updated Trimble Positions Software Suite compatible with ArcGIS for Windows Mobile 10.1.1

Both the Trimble Positions Suite and Toolkit have been updated to include the following enhancements and updates:

Work with offsets and range finders to capture data in situations where previously it would be impractical or unsafe to do so:
- Distance-bearing offset functionality for points and vertices.
- Line offset functionality for polyline and polygon features.
- Support for the Trimble LaserAce™ 1000 and LTI TruPulse 360B laser range finders.
The Trimble Positions Desktop add-in can now be used in organizations deploying Citrix or roaming profiles.
More customers can access the benefits of Trimble Positions software-it is now available in German, French, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazilian), and Japanese.
Trimble Positions software suite has been added to the Mapping & GIS Educator program, so educational institutions can have access to the software at special educator pricing.

Trimble Positions Desktop add-in

Built-in Mobile Cache creation and synchronization – Integrated support for creating and synchronizing the Mobile Cache without needing to use the Esri Mobile toolbox. This streamlines the “desktop” workflow within the Trimble Positions solution. You’ll note that the ‘Check for New Sessions’ button has been relabeled ‘Handle Sessions’ and now has a context menu. Also, there is a new entry in the context menu that opens when you click ‘Create…’ on the Projects screen. We tried to keep the workflow consistent with other project types…by starting in the Projects screen.
Map extent used to sort base stations when creating a profile – Allows you to sort the base station list by proximity to the current map extent when creating a Processing Profile. This will be the default ‘Show Base Stations Closest to’ behavior when you open the ‘Select Base Station’ form. You’ll also note some improvements around how we display the currently selected base station when you want to edit an existing profile.
Citrix and roaming profiles support – Supports the concepts of roaming profiles and per-user configurations on the desktop. This is useful in larger enterprise organizations where software applications and user configurations are centrally managed. Per-machine configurations are also still supported. You’ll see this in the re-designed Configuration tool but rest assured that your existing configuration will work just fine (it’s per-machine). You’ll also note that the log files are now stored in the roaming folder within your user profile’s application data folder.
Base station management support – Supports base station management, including updating the CBS List from the Trimble FTP server, loading of user-defined base stations defined and used in GPS Pathfinder® Office and Trimble GPS Analyst™ extension, and saving of user-defined base stations defined in Trimble Positions Desktop add-in. These utilities are available within the Configuration tool.
Issues Addressed – There is a good list in the Release Notes and we believe we’ve addressed the big ones: connections to the desktop database on Windows XP should now be reliable, post-processing with DAT files no longer requires a NAV file, and floating Desktop add-in licenses are now released properly under additional scenarios.

A few quick notes on installation…

Trimble Positions Desktop add-in : uninstall the old version first, then install the new version; the existing desktop database configuration (and hence all of your projects, processing profiles, etc.) should remain intact.
Trimble Positions Mobile extension & Trimble Positions Mobile Project Center extension: uninstall the old Trimble Positions extension version (if doing it manually, you need to include the “Trimble GNSS Server” component on the handheld as well), uninstall the old Esri ArcGIS for Windows Mobile version, install the new Esri version, then install the new Trimble Positions extension version; your existing mobile projects, and their Trimble Positions settings, should work just fine.
Trimble Positions ArcPad 10 extension: uninstall the old version first, and then install the new version.

The Support Note reads as follows:

GIS Field Software: Incorrect Vertical Coordinates:

Recent versions of Trimble GIS software are able to use geoid models interpolated with either WGS-84 (global) or a local ellipsoid. Using the incorrect interpolation can result in significantly different vertical coordinates.
In addition, the default DMA10.ggf file in the recent versions of GIS software is unable to be adjusted in the interpolation method due to a corrupt byte.

Problem:

If the DMA10.ggf file is used, vertical coordinates may be incorrectly interpolated. The DMA10.ggf file that is used in recent Trimble GIS software versions is interpreted as a local ellipsoid rather than WGS-84. This can result in large vertical coordinate differences from previous versions of software.
The DMA10.ggf file included with the software is also unable to be adjusted in the Geoid Model Configuration Utility due to a corrupt byte.
The following software is affected:
• TerraSync™ software versions 5.20 to 5.41
• GPS Pathfinder® Field toolkit versions 1.0 to 1.30
• GPS Pathfinder Office software versions 5.20 to 5.40

Solution:
Download the latest version of the DMA10.ggf and set the interpolation method to WGS-84 (Global). Then copy and paste the updated DMA10.ggf file to your handheld device and, for GPS Pathfinder Office and TerraSync desktop installations, to your desktop computer.
1. Download the latest version of the DMA10.ggf file here: DMA10.ggf file
2. Open the DMA10.ggf file in the Geoid Model Configuration Utility available here: Geoid Model Configuration Utility
3. Set the interpolation method as desired.
4. Save the DMA10.ggf file:

To your Windows Mobile handheld device in: \Program Files\Common Files\Trimble\GeoData.
To the desktop computer: * For Windows® 7, in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Trimble\GeoData.

* For Windows XP, in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Trimble\GeoData.

Even if you are only using Geoid09 or 12A in North America it’s still a good idea to keep your other Geoid options all up to date.

There are a few pieces of software that make up the Trimble Positions Suite for ArcGIS for Windows Mobile 3.10:

Desktop:

ArcGIS Mobile 3.10 for ArcGIS 10.1 which includes the ArcGIS Mobile Data Project Center (this can be downloaded from your Esri software download website using your Global ID).
Trimble Positions Desktop Add-in 10.1.1 for ArcGIS 10.1 (think of this as the old Trimble GPS Analyst extension for ArcGIS). This includes the Trimble Positions Mobile Project Center.

Trimble GPS WM Device:

ArcGIS for Windows Mobile 3.1.0. This is deployed from the PC to your Trimble WM 6.1 or WM 6.5 device.
Trimble Positions Mobile Extension 3.1.1 for ArcGIS Mobile 3.10 (think of this as the old Trimble GPS Correct extension for ArcPad).

Technical Specs for Trimble Positions 3.1.1 ArcGIS Mobile 3.10 for Windows Mobile

ArcGIS Basic 10.1 is not supported with Trimble Positions 10.1.1 for ArcGIS for Windows Mobile 3.10.
ArcGIS 10.1 STANDARD edition license is the minimum requirement for Trimble Positions 10.1.1 for ArcGIS Mobile 3.10. ArcGIS Advanced is supported too.
Personal, File Geo database and SDE are supported with Trimble Positions 3.1.1 for ArcGIS Mobile 3.10.
Side note – The ArcGIS Mobile Project Center must be installed on the PC before the Trimble Positions Project Center is installed on the PC.
Trimble Positions 3.1.1 for ArcGIS Mobile 3.10 is compatible on Trimble MGIS Windows Mobile Devices running WM 6.1 and or 6.5.
Trimble Positions 3.1.1 can be used with Trimble External Receiver/Antenna’s: Pro 6H/T, Pro XH/XT and Pro XRT as long as the data collector is a Trimble MGIS WM 6.1 and WM 6.5
Trimble Positions for ArcGIS for Windows Mobile and ArcPad is not compatible running on Windows XP, 7 or 8 platform such as a tablet or laptop for data collection. It currently is only supported on Trimble MGIS Windows Mobile 6.1 and 6.5 platforms.

Configuring the WiFi on a Juno 5

There are two Wi-Fi configuration utilities on the Trimble® Juno®5 handheld:

The Wireless Manager (the standard Microsoft® Windows® Embedded Handheld operating system Wi-Fi utility).
The Summit Client Utility.

**If you use the “Summit Client Utility” as described above, the Wi-Fi option is removed from the Wireless Manager.
